Job Title: Head of Underwriting
Report to: CRO

Main purpose of the job:
The Head of Underwriting will be responsible for the Underwriting function of the Group. This role will manage and maintain oversight over the Underwriting teams (which may be located geographically elsewhere), providing guidance in the review of Merchant applications with the objective of identifying the risks (Fraud, Credit, CDD and AML) that Tru//ST Payments may be exposed to.

Reviewing and drafting Merchant underwriting policies and procedures, this role will ensure proper risk management practices are exercised at all stages of business activity, in line with risk appetite. The jobholder will monitor the effectiveness of underwriting tools and methodologies that can support business strategy and ensure customer-centricity.

Duties and responsibilities:
• Manage the Underwriting function and develop its capabilities to ensure effective and efficient review and approval of applications for Merchant underwriting
• To be the escalation point and decision-maker for approval of merchant and partner applications in line with established policies
• Continuously assess the effectiveness of the tools and methodologies in place and make suitable recommendations that seek to improve quality and timeliness
• Foster a strong partnership with Account Management to ensure a collaborative interaction between both functions for the benefit of the customer
• Promote an understanding of the Underwriting function and the risks arising from merchant underwriting with internal stakeholders
• Prepare ad-hoc/regular reports for internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the explanation of risk findings
• Ensure adherence to Company and Card Schemes rules and policies
• Continuous process improvement and sharing best practice
• Keep abreast with latest updates in the various card scheme rules and regulations

Experience, Qualifications and Skills:
• Degree (or equivalent) or comparable work experience required
• In-depth understanding of merchant underwriting systems and processes, and assessment of associated risks
• People management experience
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong management, leadership, and organisational skills
• Knowledge of card business, card scheme regulations and relevant legislation
