Job Title:  Underwriting Manager
 
Intro
 
Most of Trust Payments are still working from home at present but we are starting to return to our Covid secure offices on a flexible basis. It’s great to see some old faces, and many new ones. Whilst the last 18 months have been a tough time for everyone personally, we’ve adapted our strategy and continued our impressive growth. In that timeframe we’ve hired and integrated close to 150 new starters and grown our revenues significantly as a business.

Main purpose of the job:
 
The jobholder will be responsible for assisting the Head of Underwriting in directing the activities of the underwriting team while supporting risk management and financial due diligence activities.
 
The jobholder will approve escalated applications for new merchants in line with set policies and delegated authority.
 
The jobholder be responsible to develop and enact policies and procedures within underwriting and collaborate with team members, other departments, and senior management to establish guidelines and best practices.
 
The jobholder will prepare ad-hoc/periodic reporting and be actively be involved in the improvement of systems and processes in the underwriting department.
 
Duties and responsibilities:
 
•   Undertake reviews of escalated merchant applications leading to the appropriate decision or recommendation in line with policies and delegated authority
•   Effectively direct the Underwriting team in the delivery of the BAU and contribute to other projects and initiatives as may be necessary from time to time as agreed      with the Head of Underwriting
•   Work closely with the Sales Team and ensure that optimum customer experience is always achieved while still abiding to the companies Risk appetite and Policies
•   Act as subject matter expert from an underwriting perspective and be the champion for the processes within underwriting
•   Ensure that all underwriting Policies and Procedures are updated in line with FCA and card scheme regulations
•   Ensure the Underwriting department are assessing account in compliance with FCA and card scheme regulations.
•   Produce training material and develop new employees within underwriting and be responsible for any ongoing training and development in policies, guidelines,      regulations, and industry
•   Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to the underwriting team to maximise outcomes and promote development for the individual
•   Ongoing evaluation of the methods and processes used for the assessment of new merchant applications to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
•   Ensure that the underwriting department comply with all FCA Audit requirements
Support the compliance department and Head of underwriting with any internal or external FCA Audit
•   Work closely with compliance to ensure that any updates to the FCA regulations are implemented and communicated to the underwriting department
•   Together with the Head of Underwriting, establish and communicate the necessary KPIs for Underwriters and team leaders and regularly provide reports of      findings and results
•   Ongoing involvement in non-BAU initiatives as delegated by Head of Risk/Underwriting
•   Support the Head of Underwriting and be involved in other projects/initiatives as may be directed from time to time
 
Experience and Qualifications:
 
•   Minimum 3 years’ experience in Acquiring preferably at management level
•   Experience in Underwriting preferably at management level
•   Strong analytical and quantitative skills
•   Knowledge of Financial and Risk analysis
•   Capability to understand Financial Statements
•   Attention to detail and due diligence
•   Good written and verbal communications skills
•   Well organised and meticulous
•   Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
•   Ability to motivate and encourage others in a positive manner
•   Experience in leading a team
